More SAAB S 29 C information and history

More SAAB 29 information and history.
Just after the WW-II, SAAB designed
a Fighter Aircraft with swept wings
and built with a license built engine
the Ghost RM @ 2, 2.270 kp. Because
of the large cross section of the
engine the aircraft was nicknamed
”Flygande tunnan” or "the Flying
Barrel” from the begining.

SAAB 29 was developed primarily as a
Fighter and Interceptor Aircraft
secondary for Reconnaissance
and Attack purposes.
A total production of 661 Aircrafts
was built of SAAB 29.

The S 29 C was the photo
reconnaissance version "Kodac".
The test aircraft flew for the
first time in June 1953. '76 units' of
the S 29 C was delivered to S.A.F
between 1954 ~ 1956. The S 29 C was
based on the J-29B fighter version.
The nose section was redesigned
to get room for the camera equipment.
Later, the aircraft got the ”saw-tooth”
on each wing, from the beginning
introduced on the J-29E version. This
gave SAAB 29 higher Mach speed.

Up to seven cameras could be installed.
Standard equipment and configuration
could consist of [4] four large scale
SKa 10 cameras with 92 mm focal length,
[2] two vertical and [2] two oblique
mounted. Further more one wide-angel
SKa 15 camera 15 mm focal length for
mapping and high-altitude vertical photos,
and or one vertical mounted Ska 5 camera
of 25 mm focal length ..

The SAAB S 29 C was equipped with Rear
Warning Radar, indicating intercepting
fighters in the rear radar sector. A camera
sight was fitted to allow the pilot to start
the cameras more exact above the target.
The aircraft lacked any armaments.
Two S 29 C were used by the Swedish UN
forces in the Congo in the beginning of the
sixties. SAAB 29 showed an outstanding
serviceability in Scandinavian winter
conditions as well as under tropical

icon/legend of "WW-II" the F4U Corsair.
First deployed by the Navy in 1967 aboard
the aircraft carrier USS Ranger,
the A-7 gained the nickname "SLUF",
an anacronym for Short Little Ugly Feller.

Throughout the 1980s, the A-7's supported
US operations in Grenada, Lebanon and
